Power Generation Equipment FAQs

Review common questions about high voltage equipment selection, switching and isolation functions, technical ratings and project support for power generation facilities.

A
Power generation facilities commonly use high voltage circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, load break switches, surge arresters, high voltage fuses and operating mechanisms. The required equipment depends on its position in the generator step-up transformer bay, switchyard, auxiliary power system or renewable energy collection network.

A
Selection should be based on the system voltage, highest voltage for equipment, rated current, calculated short-circuit level, insulation level, operating sequence, installation environment and required control method. The circuit breaker ratings must be checked against the project single-line diagram and protection requirements before a model is confirmed.

A
No. A disconnector is mainly used to provide a visible isolation gap after the circuit has been de-energized. It is not intended to interrupt normal load current or short-circuit current. A circuit breaker or suitable load break switch must perform the required current-interruption duty before the disconnector is operated.

A
A circuit breaker can make, carry and interrupt normal current and specified fault current. A disconnector provides safe isolation but is not designed for load-current interruption. A load break switch can switch normal load current, but its short-circuit interruption capability differs from that of a circuit breaker.

A
Yes. Equipment can be selected according to the project voltage, current, fault level and site conditions. Outdoor configuration reviews may include ambient temperature, altitude, pollution level, wind pressure, icing conditions, creepage distance, corrosion exposure and the required mechanical terminal loads.

A
Motor-operated configurations are available for applicable circuit breakers and disconnectors. The control voltage, auxiliary contacts, position indication, interlocking logic and local or remote operating requirements should be confirmed during the technical review.

A
Equipment can be selected and configured with reference to the applicable IEC standards and the technical requirements of the project. The applicable standard, rated parameters, testing or documentation requirements and any project-specific deviations should be identified before order confirmation.

A
Please provide the single-line diagram or equipment list, system voltage, rated current, short-circuit level and duration, insulation requirements, installation environment, operating mechanism and control voltage, required quantity and delivery destination. Drawings and interface dimensions are also helpful when equipment replacement or switchgear integration is involved.
